In this table, I have listed eight popular HON office chairs which are best in class and come at an affordable price. Although many of these chairs offer the same adjustability and mechanism, they have different designs and materials.
HON Crio being their entry-level chair and the least expensive on this list. However, this chair offers some decent features like a task chair.
On the other hand, HON Nucleus is the most expensive HON chair on this list and is backed by a lifetime warranty from HON. This chair comes with a mesh back design and an elegant suspended seat cushion to deliver good comfort. This chair is definitely something worth looking into.
Shipping and Return Policy
HON chairs don’t ship fully assembled so, you would need to assemble them upon arrival, but these chairs are very easy to assemble.
You could return the chair within 30 days if you don’t like it and will get a refund. However, make sure the chair is in good condition, and nothing is damaged to avoid restocking fees. Also, when you are returning it, make sure you send it back in the original packaging.
HON has different warranty periods for their office chairs. From the list, you can see that three office chairs have a full lifetime warranty, while others have a limited 5 or 3 years of warranty.
Specific chair components such as pneumatic cylinders and seating control have 12-years of warranty.
So, with HON chairs, you are getting a good warranty if something goes wrong along the way.
HON chair uses durable material from caster wheels, starbase, pneumatic cylinder, and all the way up through the seat, arms, and backrest. However, you might find some materials a bit plasticky due to the price, but they have good longevity.
HON chairs are not high-end like Steelcase or Herman Miller chairs and are not as expensive as those. Even the entry model chair of Steelcase costs more than the expensive chair of HON.
But HON office chairs are made of durable material, and they are comfortable for everyday use. You are getting good warranties as well.
HON Chairs are Comfortable
HON chair offers Mesh/Fabric, Mesh/Leather, Full Leather material for their chairs. Their mesh-back design ensures better back support and optimal airflow to your body.
You can sit comfortably on HON chairs by making necessary ergonomic adjustments. These chairs offer a contoured seat cushion design that will give comfort while sitting.
HON Ignition 2.0 and Nucleus chair uses a flexible back design that helps you flex your upper back and relax back muscles.
The seat uses a well-padded mesh cushion for a good overall sitting experience.
Ergonomic adjustments are essential for office chairs and fit an individual correctly. HON offers fairly adequate ergonomic adjustability for their mid-range office chairs.
You will find standard adjustabilities such as pneumatic seat height adjustments, 2D or 3D arm set adjustments, height-adjustable Lumbar support, Reclining mechanism with tilt lock and recline tension.
All the HON office chairs offer 2D armrests with height and width adjustability to add extra comfort. However, HON Lota chairs offer 3D armrests with extra pivoting options. However, height and width adjustable arm sets should be fine for most people.
If you are looking for 4D armrests, you might need to check other chairs as HON chairs don’t offer 4D adjustable arm sets.
Lumbar Height Adjustability:
HON chairs are ergonomically built to offer decent lumbar support, and their back support has a curve design on the lumbar region.
You will get height-adjustable lumbar support in all listed HON chairs except Exposure, Lota, and Boda chairs. No chair comes with lumbar depth adjustment; if that’s something you are looking for, then HON won’t be a good option for you.
Seat Depth Adjustability:
Seat depth adjustability is an essential feature that helps you keep 2-3 inches of gap between the seat edge and behind your knees, and it enhances your sitting experience.
You won’t get seat depth adjustment with all the HON chairs. However, seat depth adjustments are available on Ignition 2.0, Exposure, Nucleus, and Boda chair.
If you are short or tall, depending on your height, seat-depth plays an important role in sitting comfort and overall ergonomics.
Recline Lock and Recline Tension:
All HON chairs come with a tilt lock and recline tension adjustments. Only HON Nucleus offers four locking positions, where other chairs offer only upright lock and free recline option.
You will get a recline tension option in all HON chairs, which helps you increase or decrease the resistance while you are reclining.
|Chair Model||Tilt Mechanism|
|HON Ignition 2.0||Synchro-Tilt|
|HON Lota||Weight Activated|
HON chairs offer four types of tilting mechanisms: Synchro-tilt, Weight Activated, Knee-Tilt, and Swivel Tilt.
Synchro-Tilt: This mechanism helps you recline in a 2 to 1 ratio, which means if your backrest reclines for 10 degrees, there will be 5 degrees of seat incline, keeping you in a more healthy position.
Weight Activated: This mechanism works according to the user’s weight. If you recline back, the weight-activated mechanism will auto-adjust the tension control based on your weight. This mechanism is more straightforward, you don’t need to adjust the tilt tension.
Knee-Tilt: When you recline back, this mechanism will rotate the seat from a point near the seat front, giving you a more robust reclining experience.
Swivel-Tilt: This mechanism is widespread, and you will find this mechanism in all standard office chairs. Swivel-tilt works from the center of the seat, and you need to put pressure on your feet while you are reclining.
If you would like to learn more about tilting mechanisms and how they work, we have an article on it. You can check our article “How Does an Office Chair Tilt Work?“.

What is the best HON office chair?
The HON ignition 2.0 is the HON’s best office chair due to its ergonomic adjustability, design, comfort, build quality, and price. Also, ignition 2.0 is backed by a full lifetime warranty from HON. So, it’s definitely their best chair.
HON makes mid-range office chairs with decent ergonomic features. So, you won’t find all the adjustability you want on a HON chair as most of their chair has only 2D adjustable arm where 4D arms are getting common on modern office chairs and lack a headrest.
So, there are many lacking in ergonomic adjustabilities. However, these adjustabilities are adequate for most of us. If you are looking for more ergonomic features, you need to find another brand or go for more premium chairs.
